In this workshop, you will learn figure drawing and painting from a live model while exploring essential techniques in both dry and wet mediums. Through demos and timed exercises, you will be introduced to a range of mediums (such as acrylic paints, soft pastels) and techniques to learn about use of composition, colour mixing, shadow, form and observation. Master the art of composition! With a viewfinder in hand, you’ll explore how perspective, cropping, and foreshortening can transform ordinary poses into powerful portfolio pieces. You’ll explore the basics of colour mixing and painting from a live model to create expressive, portfolio-ready figure studies. Through guided peer discussions, you will explore how to give and receive feedback — building the collaborative skills essential to art school and creative practice. To finish, you’ll learn easy ways to photograph your artwork using what you have on hand, so you can showcase your best pieces in your portfolio.
You will come away from this workshop with several timed gestural drawings of live model on paper, as well 1 resolved painting of live model on canvas panel.
