In this 3D fabrication workshop, you will create a small trinket tray for displaying your personal items.  You will work from concept to finished project, starting off with a sketch moving into the wood shop to fabricate and decorate your designs.

Using a set size as your starting point, you’ll design, build and decorate a tray that shows off your personal style. You will explore how to bring 3D objects to life through surface design, trying out masking, stenciling, and hand-painting while playing with proportions and pattern.

From ancient relics to bedroom walls, showing off what we collect has always been a way to say who we are. This is a way that we show the world what we value, what brings us joy, and gives people a glimpse into our personality. A trinket tray is one way that we organize our spaces to showcase our personality to others or simply bring joy to ourselves.

    You will learn:

    • How to translate a 2D sketch into a 3D object
    • The ideation and development of surface patterns
    • How to safely use wood shop machine equipment such as a bandsaw, drill press and disc sander.
    • Finishing techniques and surface decorative approaches to bring showcase your personal style
    • Easy ways to document your work with your smartphone, making it portfolio-ready

Please note: This Portfolio Clinic workshop may be subject to cancellation due to low enrolment.
