Zines & Surrealism

Monday, July 5, 2021 at 11:00 AM until 2:00 PMEastern Daylight Time

    Course Medium: Painting & Drawing
    About this Course:
Are you inspired by poetry, dreams, and the wonder of all things 'strange'?
In this workshop, you'll explore how strange or fantastical subject matter provides the perfect theme for DIY creations called 'zines' and mixed-media work. Poetry-based prompts, stream-of-consciousness processes, and other 'inspo' strategies favoured by the Surrealists will guide you in creating wonderful and weird creations in this workshop.

Erin Finley  is an artist and an award-winning educator. In 2018, she received OCADU's "Inspired Teaching Award" for her work with first-year students. She teaches first-year drawing in the Faculty of Art where she invites students to think and draw in new ways. In her own studio practice, she creates ink drawings, mixed media drawings, and work grounded in autobiography. Erin Finley has exhibited art internationally and, during the pandemic, her practice has taken on an exciting new direction: performing live drawings for virtual audiences. Over the past year, Finley has performed live virtual drawings for audiences at Utrecht University, University of Wisconsin, University of South Carolina, and the Global Institute for Research in Education. This summer, she will be presenting virtually at Birmingham University (Birmingham, England) and Carroll University (Wisconsin, USA).
